چکیده

A variable step-size control by error power was proposed to improve the performance of adaptive constant modulus blind equalization algorithm based on the analysis of the cost function. In the Constant Modulus Algorithm (CMA), large step-size can achieve faster convergence rate, but the steady-state residual error is big, on the contrary, small step-size can achieve higher convergence precision, but the convergence rate is slow. A triangle inequality can be set up according to the cost function of CMA and the power of error and signal can be estimated by exponential decay window, then the attenuation function can be obtained to control the step-size change. Meanwhile, the threshold is set to reset the step-size to ensure the tracking performance when the channel has burst interference. Computer simulation results prove the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm.

Improved Blind Equalization Scheme Using Variable Step Size Constant Modulus Algorithm

The blind equalizer relies on the knowledge of signal’s constellation and its statistics to perform equalization. The major drawback is that the blind equalizer will typically take a longer time to converge as compared to a trained equalizer. Variable Step-Size LMS (VSLMS) algorithms have been introduced to optimize the speed and steady-state error. The relationships between the a priori and a ...

Improving the Rate of Convergence of Blind Adaptive Equalization for Fast Varying Digital Communication Systems

The recent digital transmission systems impose the application of channel equalizers with bandwidth efficiency, which mitigates the bottleneck of intersymbol interference for high-speed data transmission-over communication channels. This leads to the exploration of blind equalization techniques that do not require the use of a training sequence. Blind equalization techniques however suffer from...

A Novel Variable Step Size Adjustment Method Based on Autocorrelation of Error Signal for the Constant Modulus Blind Equalization Algorithm

Blind equalization is a technique for adaptive equalization of a communication channel without the use of training sequence. Although the constant modulus algorithm (CMA) is one of the most popular adaptive blind equalization algorithms, because of using fixed step size it suffers from slow convergence rate. A novel enhanced variable step size CMA algorithm (VSS-CMA) based on autocorrelation of...

Variable Step Size Blind Equalization Based on Sign Gradient Algorithm

This work proposes a variable step size sign gradient algorithm to solve the problem of blind equalization under impulse noise environment. This algorithm suppresses the impulse noise interference effectively because of the sign operation on the instantaneous gradient based on constant modulus algorithm (CMA) cost function. Meanwhile, the excess mean square error can be further reduced by use o...

Adaptive fractionally spaced blind CMA equalization: excess MSE

The performance of the constant modulus algorithm (CMA)—a reference algorithm for adaptive blind equalization—is studied in terms of the excess mean square error (EMSE) due to the nonvanishing step size of the gradient descent algorithm. An analytical approximation of EMSE is provided, emphasizing the effect of the constellation size and resulting in design guidelines.
